In a parallel commission for a block within Vallgraven in Göteborg, we produced a proposal that was both firmly rooted in the place and the city's history and, at the same time, pointed to a new possible direction in the development of the city centre. In the proposal, we demolished part of Johannes Olivegren's building from the 1970s in order to widen Östra Larmgatan. On the site, we erected a tall building as a landmark adjacent to Hotellplatsen and the entrance to the district. With a rooftop extension and an infill on the old Johanna plot, which was also opened up into a new passage, the block was tied together into a vibrant urban block containing several historical layers within itself.
